Corona Treatment
Why Corona Treat?
Corona treatment is generally applied to web surfaces whose normal surface tension is not
sufficiently high to permit good wetting by inks and coatings used in many commercial
applications.
|
|
How Does It Work?
|
|
Corona treating increases the surface tension of most materials by inducing molecular changes
in the surface of the film. By applying concentrated energy (an electrical discharge) to the
surface being treated, oxygen molecules break down and bond to molecules in the material
being treated, increasing the surface energy. Measuring the change in the surface tension or
the dyne level is facilitated by comparing the difference of the surface tension of the
treated and non treated material.
